Only in the summer I can really make things due to the intensity of my course, so I finally got to make my bunting! (in time for a wet summer!!)

knitted doorstop

This is the first knitted project that I have designed myself. After seeing a felt doorstop of a generic house, I decided to try and make a knitted version of my own house. I wanted to remember my childhood home whilst living away at university.

Garlic

Exciting times! Today i have planted 3 cloves of garlic which hopefully will grow into garlic bulbs - this is the perfect time of year to plant them so I will keep you updated on the progress of my garlic!

Newspaper Table

I wanted to do something different as a bedside table, so I spent weeks cutting out newspaper headlines, cartoons, and articles which amused me or was very revelent to the current times. Such as headlines from the MPs expences scandle, swine flu headlines and the league table where my rugby team finished first. I then glued (using PVA glue) each cutting to the table and arranged them so some overlapped and the key headings were where I wanted to see them. I Then let that dry (for about 24 hours) and then painted a layer of clear varnish over the top and then let that dry then repeated the varnishing untill you couldn't feel the lines in between the changes of articles.

A Family Of Gonks

A family of knitted 'gonks'. I made one for each of my family. Back left is mine, back right my brothers, front right my dads (which lives in his car) and front left is my mums (which lives in her car). I made my mums the colours of her favourite football club (Sunderland) and on one side it is happy, for when they win and on the other is sad, for when they loose.

Single Bed Blanket

My first real knitting project, it took me about seven months to knit and I am so proud of it and love it so much.

Lacy Cardigan

A lacy cardigan which I made in the end weeks of the summer, my cat decided she wanted to be in the picture too. This is made with Soya wool (as it was on offer) and it just feels so nice.

Last Christmas...

Last christmas I made this Norwegian style jumper which I love. Hopefully this christmas I might make another jumper but different pattern.

Innocent Hats

Innocent hats I knitted for their "Big Knit", in total I submitted 50 (3 of which one of my housemate made). They will be in the shops this November :)

What I did over the summer 2

My grandad showed my dad how to to this when his was young and now my dad showed me how to. What we did was:

Got a cheap record from a charity shop and then cleaned it with a damp cloth to take off the dust. Then pre-heat the over to 225 centigrade. Find an oven proof bowl (such as a glass bowl) and plac it upside down on a baking tray. Place the record in the centre of the base and then put it in the oven and bake until the sides have gone floppy (for 5 minutes).

After the five minutes, take it out and flip the record off (carefully) and place into the same or another bowl and shape it with your fingers. If it starts to get cold place it back in the oven and re-shape it.
